Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) was officially launched by the Immigration of Canada in 2017. Unlike other immigration programs such as provincial nominations, the biggest advantage of this pilot program is that employers no longer need to apply for a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) in order to hire a foreign worker.

This means that the government has simplified the procedures for local companies to hire foreign workers, shortened the immigration waiting time, and accelerated the speed of recruiting new immigrants. The goal of the pilot program is to bring in more international students and skilled overseas talent to the Atlantic provinces of Canada to address the local labor shortage. In short, this is a new immigration program with mutual benefit between employers and employees.

The four provinces participating in the AIPP program are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador. The program mainly targets two groups of people: one is the international skilled worker who has obtained a job offer from a designated employer in the Atlantic Provinces, and the other is a graduate of the Atlantic Provinces with a post-secondary education of at least 2 years who have obtained a job offer from a designated employer.
